The scheme is also purposed to create international collaborations. To ensure that the impact of visits is felt by a wide cross-section of the research community, Visiting Research Fellows will take part in activities of GSSTI during their visit. They will attend research seminars within GSSTI, give seminars on their research work, as well as provide counsel and engage in knowledge exchange with students and researchers at GSSTI. They will also develop and write collaborative research proposals and grant applications with a researcher (s) at GSSTI.

Visiting Research Fellows MUST have already been awarded their doctorate at the time of application or near completion and must have obtained the necessary funding for their visit to GSSTI.

Duration and Timing

The minimum length of a visit is one month, and the maximum is three months. Shorter or longer visits will be considered. A visiting research fellow’s visit may start at any time that is convenient for the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute and will be consistent with achieving effective interaction with other potential collaborators in the Institute.

Facilities

A visiting research fellow will have formally recognised status as a member of GSSTI with access to office space and equipment such as computers and printers; however, office consumables such as stationeries, cartridges, and internet may come at a cost. (NB: All these should be decided by GSSTI based on their availability).

The GSSTI also strongly recommends that prospective visiting research fellows should organise travel insurance prior to departure from country of residence to Ghana.

Accommodation

A visiting research fellow will be responsible for finding suitable accommodation for his/her entire stay at GSSTI and is also responsible for the cost of all accommodation and living expenses. The GSSTI may however, assist in providing appropriate suggestions on accommodations when needed.
